TIPS FOR A BETTER MORNING
I’m always sharing bits and pieces of our mornings over on instagram but I just wanted to touch on a few things I do each and every morning to really set the tone for the day. These are things that help my day run smoother and actually make the mornings more enjoyable. When I am intentional about what I do first thing after I wake up, it totally sets the mood for my whole day. Because I’m not only setting the tone for myself, but also for my children. I try my best to stick to these few simple steps so we all can ALL start the day right.
4 TIPS FOR A BETTER MORNING
PREPARE THE NIGHT BEFORE
This step is key I find. With two small children, things seem to take a little longer in the mornings so preparing is essential. After I put the kids to bed I always do a quick clean up (clear sink, wipe down counters, put away laundry, clean up toys, etc) so that we wake up to a fresh, clean space. I also try to pick and lay out the kids’ clothes so it’s one less thing to have to do in the AM! This step has saved us a lot of time. These super simple steps make the world of difference for me!
WAKE UP BEFORE YOUR KIDS
I have to admit this one is hard for me with a newborn. So, I definitely give myself grace during this time period. Ayla usually wakes up around 8-8:30am. I have been trying my best to get back on the train of waking up before my kids and I have to say when I do get up before everyone else I feel SO much better. There is something about waking up and having just 20 minutes of peace before the morning starts. I will usually get dressed and ready for the day depending what we have going on. Answer emails, and write out my to-do list for the day. This really sets the tone for the morning and I always feel less anxious or rushed when I do this. Getting into a positive mindset before my babies wake up is my main goal in waking up early!
GET A WORKOUT IN
For me, working out is a passsion and something I absolutely love to do (and always have loved except for this second pregnancy). Okay, lets be real I don’t actually always workout first thing in the morning but I try my best. Because I stay home with my kids, getting that one hour break 3x week to do something I love just makes me so happy. Turn the music up, get a big bottle of water and just sweat. Getting a good workout in helps my mood, I feel overall happier and makes me feel better throughout the day. Both my body & my mind really benefit from this one!
BE PRESENT
Once my kids wake up, my full attention goes to them. I try to put my phone away and be in the moment with them. We get ready, watch Elmo (I swear Ayla could watch the same episode everyday), eat breakfast, read some books, play at her toy kitchen, do a little colouring- Ayla loves this one! Kade is starting to be awake a lot more during the days now so he’s always right by our side watching, usually in my arms because he is attached to his mama big time!
MY SMOOTHIE RECIPE:
1 scoop of vanilla protein powder
low fat vanilla yogurt (oikos zero is my fav)
1 cup of frozen mangos
1 cup of frozen pineapple
1 big handful of fresh spinach
2 cups of sweetened almond milk
What is something you do each morning to start your day off right?
